About Stepnrepeat UK
After many years in this weird and wonderful industry they call events, we’ve experienced the highs and lows—designing and producing whatever it took to give our clients the best backdrops and service possible.
Our journey started with Mark 1 StepnRepeat walls — a simple timber frame with Foamex panels and custom-made stage weights. Fast forward to today, and with Mark 4, Jay has engineered a system that delivers flawless results every single time. Built with the best tension fabric materials, a robust flatpack design, and a premium finish, it’s not only built to last but also stands as the most eco-friendly event backdrop on the market.
Of course, businesses have come and gone over the years — some trying to copy what we do and failing. The difference is simple: we keep everything in-house. That means we stay in control, deliver consistently, and never have to worry about unreliable suppliers letting us down.
When it came to cost, Jay had a thought: why should clients have to buy a premium system, deal with the huge upfront investment, and then pay to store it between events? It didn’t make sense. Instead, we created a hire model—bringing costs right down while still offering clients the very best in event branding. With hassle-free installations and collections, we remove the stress so you can focus on your event.
As Jay always says: “The last thing a client should worry about is their brand on event day.” That belief is what sparked StepnRepeat Hire Walls, and we’ve never looked back.
About The Boss
Jay Wears
Director & Designer
Jay is a professional sign-writer by trade, with design coming to him naturally. Over his career, he’s only had three jobs—all within the same world of signage and design.
He began straight out of school, working for a small sign company in Harlesden where he learned traditional skills, including the craft of gold leaf. From there, he moved on to a large sign company in Uxbridge, joining the production and installation team. After four years of honing his craft, Jay was headhunted by an exhibition and events company based in Hampton Court.
It was here that Jay took his signwriting and design expertise and applied it to exhibitions and events—raising the bar by bringing the precision, professionalism, and high standards of the signage world into the industry. Over the next four years, he travelled the world, collaborating with incredible people and working alongside blue-chip companies. Then, on his birthday, the unexpected happened: the industry hit a downturn, the events bubble burst, and Jay was made redundant.
With his reputation and skills, Jay was quickly approached by several businesses offering opportunities. But instead, he chose to take a leap of faith. Despite his parents’ advice not to, Jay launched 3SG UK — and never looked back.
Years later, after countless clients (both old and new) began asking him for logo walls and step and repeat walls, Jay saw a gap in the UK market. While some companies offered backdrops, none met the high standards he envisioned. So, in August 2012, he created a logo, built a website, and launched a business dedicated solely to professional event backdrops. Within the first hour of going live, the phone rang with their first booking. That client? They’re still with us today.
What began in the loft of his parents’ home in London has now grown into a thriving business, with a dedicated team—and more than one location—serving the events industry across the UK.
